Many local people from Wythenshawe are finding it hard to manage their money, benefit cuts, housing changes and food poverty. At The Dandelion Community we don't think people should have to choose between eating and heating so we run a weekly food drop-in. Food is mostly fresh and includes veg and fruit which can be more expensive from large food shops and first to go when money is tight. There are some basics also available but these are limited.
Food comes from Wythenshawe Hub on Tuesdays and FareShare on Wednesdays. Please bring your own bags if you can. We would also welcome any volunteers to support this work. Use the form at the bottom of this page. It costs £100 per month (approx £1200 per year) to run this important service with volunteers including £50 per month FareShare membership. If you would like to support this community service financially by making a one off or regular donation we would be delighted! You can make a donation via paypal
We have run an informal market stall for a couple of years from our building in Woodhouse Park (2012-2014) but food poverty has affected the way people buy food so we are focussing on supporting the most vulnerable households in our community now with emergency food sharing.
We have a growing 'Garden of Eden' - a community fruit and veg garden we started in 2013. We grow potatoes, onions, strawberries, herbs and fruit. We also run a double sized allotment in Woodhouse Park with fruit trees, basic veg, healing flowers and herbs like arnica and mint, and raise chickens and ducks. The eggs are for sale most Wednesdays £1 for 6 chickens eggs £2 for duck eggs. If you would like to buy eggs send us a message via the form below. Fruit and veg is shared regularly via community cooking and church events in Woodhouse Park.
